Looking back on International Women’s Month, centered around March 8, which is International Women’s Day, recognized by over 30 countries across the globe, we see the amazing work women have done throughout history, continuing through the current era.
As springtime approaches and our representatives become more present outdoors, including the women employed by Minnesota Canvas, which make up 50% of our leadership, here are some amazing facts about women’s indelible work with non-profits:
- The act of public charity in the United States was popularized in the Progressive Era, roughly from the 1890s through the 1920s. One of the major spearheads of this movement was women’s suffrage. Suffragists were also noted for their support for increased democracy and civil rights, in addition to the vote.
- As of 2026, roughly 69% of the non-profit workforce comprises women.
- Women also lead over half of all non-profit organizations in the United States.
- Statistics show women are more likely to donate than men. They are also more likely to give to multiple charities.
- Women are more likely to volunteer than men and volunteer more hours as a whole.
