What to Expect in an Interview with Minnesota Canvas

Minnesota Canvas is built on systems. These systems are not rigid limitations, but frames upon which we hang our charitable outreach. This includes our hiring process.

Once you have been selected, you will go through three rounds of virtual interviews. For every interview, a stable Internet connection is required as well. These interviews are to be held over Zoom. You may sit or stand in a comfortable spot with clear lighting. You must be able to hear and respond to interview questions and conversations.

Round 1 is preliminary, meaning a relatively informal conversation, around 10 minutes. It will consist of questions, ranging from personal introductions to fun icebreakers to some inquiries about your skills and qualities. We will also introduce more about ourselves and Minnesota Canvas. This interview is conducted with one of the hiring managers.

All we expect from you is good conversation and your attention for the first round interview. Each weekday, we interview roughly 25 individuals, and the top 10 are selected for Round 2.

Round 2 will be around 30-45 minutes. This interview will be a formal, in-depth look at our business and company culture. The questions will also be more in-depth, asking about specific skills and experiences. This interview is conducted with one of the office leaders.

Since this interview is much more formal than the previous, we ask that you dress business-professional. Also bring paper and pen to take down notes. This is also the time to ask questions about the business and expectations.

After the second round, you will be sent a brief questionnaire as a recap of the information you’ve given in the interview. Shortly after the questionnaire, you will receive a text message on whether or not you have been selected for Round 3.

Round 3 is the summative interview, with a hiring manager. The people who have been selected for the third round have already demonstrated great skills in communication and listening. The questions in this round are practical, regarding scheduling, day-to-week-to-year expectations, and what you should expect on your first day, if hired.

For this interview, make sure to be business-professional and continue to take notes.

Once these interviews have all been completed, you should expect a phone call within a few days on whether or not you’ve been selected for the position. Whether you’ve been hired or not, you will still receive the call.

Even if you are not selected, no hard feelings! This is a complex process, with many facets. Our fundraisers need to fulfill a lot of expectations for these charities, and not being chosen is no bearing on you as a person.

And for those considering a job with Minnesota Canvas, hope to see you soon!
